Be sure to read the comments to the original post. It seems EINs are no longer accepted for individuals. I had to re-enter my tax info for Smashwords several months ago and used my personal tax ID number (known as a Social Insurance Number here in Canada). That worked, after 3 attempts. What it boils down to is if your country has a tax treaty with the US you shouldn’t be seeing 30% withdrawal, but EIN can be used only if you’re a company, not an individual. Note: I haven’t made any changes to my tax info on Amazon so far, just Smashwords.
Thanks, Audrey. I just saw this. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge!
